In 2025, the SIEC Scholarship Program will award three (3) $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors attending a school within the Cooperative's service territory. There will also be one $2,000 scholarship available for Lineman School. In order to be considered for the 2025 scholarships, please read the Program Overview below and click on the link at the bottom to download SIEC's Scholarship Application. Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative Academic Scholarship Program Overview
I. Eligible Candidates
A. All high school seniors attending a school within the Cooperative’s service territory and whose parents or guardians are members of Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative with active account(s).
B. Applicant must be accepted by an accredited two or four year college, university or vocational-technical school , or a Line Technician program having at least a 1-year curriculum.
C. The candidate may be enrolled in any field of study.
II. Application Procedures
A. Applicants for scholarships must complete an application form and a 300-500 word typewritten essay on an assigned topic.
B. All applications must be received by the deadline for consideration.
III. Terms and Conditions
A. Three (3) $2000 scholarships will be awarded – one scholarship in each of the three designated areas. The designated areas are: Appanoose/Van Buren Counties, Davis County and Wapello County. An additional $2,000 scholarship may be awarded to a student attending an accredited line technician program with at least a 1-year curriculum.
B. All completed applications are sent to a panel of judges who select the scholarship winners. The judges are not associated with the Cooperative and will give equal consideration to all students.
C. Winners will be notified in May and will be presented a Certificate of Achievement at their graduation awards assembly.
D. Scholarships will be awarded on a one-time basis and will not be renewable.
E. Awards will be paid upon proof of registration at an institute of higher education.
F. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender or disability.
G. The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
IV. Selection Criteria
A. General Selection Criteria will include the following evaluation considerations:
1. Southern Iowa Electric Cooperative membership eligibility; as required.
2. The depth of addressing the assigned topic and the dynamics of written communication exhibited within the 300-500 word essay submittal.
3. Grade Point Average.
4. School and Community involvement.
5. SAT or ACT Score.
B. The following point scale will be utilized for determining the three recipients of the academic scholarships:
1. 300 - 500 Word Essay 0 – 70
2. School and Community Involvement 0 – 10
3. SAT or ACT Score 0 – 10
4. Grade Point Average 0 – 10
5. Total Possible Points 100
C. The highest scoring applicants in each of the three designated county areas will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship as well as a possible additional line technician program $2,000 scholarship as applicable.
